There's good reason why Texas is number one in incarceration, despite our state's reputation for the Lone Star State being so "liberal" on the whole crime. In fact, Texas ranks third per capita incarceration rates for black men, behind Kentucky and Utah.
And this is, indeed, a problem with our criminal justice system: It's too easy to get away with criminal conduct. Texas' incarceration problem is a symptom of this fact.
Texas' low incarceration rate is largely a byproduct of being very restrictive state for people with criminal records. If, for example, a person gets caught with pot, and there's no reason to believe that he or she will go on to commit violent crime, they are automatically sent to a rehabilitation center for six months. If, however, the person was charged with a violent robbery and the police have proof of perpetrator's prior arrest or conviction, an inmate cannot find out where he or she will be sent for treatment until after their sentence has been served.

Generic drug for tamsulosin," which means "diseased skin."
According to her LinkedIn, Stumpf worked as a drug product manager in 2007 for AbbVie Inc.
On Nov. 7, she had to quit because started feeling ill after taking a blood product and placebo. The next day, she was hospitalized.
Last November, CNN had received Stumpf's medical records from the hospital in Philadelphia, and when she came out of the facility's emergency room she had a fever of 104, which in itself is relatively high for a patient of her age.
Then, there was the gastrointestinal toxin — staphylococcus aureus that affected her intestines but appeared to have no negative effects on her kidney or liver.
Stumps's next treatment was supposed to involve chemotherapy at her home, but she did not want to go.
"When the procedure failed to remove [the staph] it started to infect me again even if the chemotherapy was working. I had to go into the hospital," Stumpf said. Instead of chemotherapy, the doctors gave her antibiotics.
The day before her discharge, Stumpf asked brother, the family doctor, for a copy of the hospital's medical records. Her brother told that he had them.
And then what happened.
"He told me to take care of it myself," Stumpf said, saying was just one doctor's impression. When the problem returned three months later, Stumpf was on antibiotics again, but the problem flared up again.
"She is in an extremely serious situation, at risk for both a stroke and potential heart attack," Dr. Jay Kapoor, chair of the American College Surgeons' Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, wrote in an email to CNN. Kapoor said "the infection, which is most likely staph in the lungs, has turned into a complicated surgical condition," which could result in "permanent brain damage." Doctors are preparing to remove Stumpf's jaw and give it to a relative for care, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Stumpf says her doctors told that chemotherapy could cause brain damage, too. She also took a blood product that was supposed to prevent infection.
And she says her first heart attack during treatment — while she was being held at the Intensive Care Unit — is another case of how she got the wrong medical treatment that led to permanent health damage. "She lost consciousness very shortly after being admitted," her doctor wrote in an email. According to Stumpf, there was no heart attack during treatment — but then again, there was no heart attack during the hospitalization.
And then came the blood product, also from her physician?
That was just as she returning home with her brother in November, Stumpf says.
"I got a little weak. They wouldn't let me sleep for at least two days in the ICU," she said, "to clear my system of that blood stuff. I was terrified."
Stumpf never went to the emergency room, she says, so doctors believe got the blood product on Tuesday, and that she was then put on antibiotics the next day.
Then, according to Stumpf, the problems started pile up — and she stopped breathing. "They held me in my bed and I couldn't even breathe," she said.
Stumpf, her brother, and roommate are hoping doctors will diagnose her with pneumonia. There has been no official statement from the hospital, but her brother, who wrote a heartfelt Facebook message to her at the hospital shortly before she went into surgery, described her condition in heartbreaking detail.
"I can only describe you as a beautiful shining star in the darkest of times," he wrote. "A very determined, patient, brave angel. Every single time you woke up, got up and did a quick self check with your little boy to make sure he was okay."
He explained that Stumpf was extremely afraid of what could have happened and that her tamsulosin online purchase son had to help walk, play video games and eat. "It's not fair or reasonable that your body is going to reject anything that may have been injected into it," he wrote.
And yet, when she was admitted, hospitals will sometimes do these invasive diagnostic tests with best drugstore brow gel uk patients like Stumpf — because that's what they are trained to do, by the standards of most insurance companies and hospitals, according to some health care experts.
"This was the standard procedure for someone who got a chest infection at the end of night home," said Dr. Keith Ayoob, dean of the Tufts Cummings School Medicine, who chairs the board of physicians Massachusetts Tamsulosin 10mg $246.24 - $0.68 Per pill General Hospital and Brigham Women's Hospital.
Some critics say hospitals like Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have a responsibility to take.
